Inter Milan clinch 14th win over Sampdoria Monday, January 29, 2007 06:16 [IST]
Milan:
The winning run of Serie A leaders Inter Milan continued as they secured an
easy 1-0 win over 10-man Sampdoria.
The seventh-minute dismissal of midfielder Gennaro Del Vecchio
made things easy for Inter, who secured a record-setting 14th straight win on a
goal by Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the match Sunday.
Del Vecchio received his marching orders for head butting
Marco Materazzi, who had intervened after the Samp player clashed with keeper
Julio Cesar.
Ibrahimovic scored his 10th goal this season to put Inter
ahead 30 minutes later, heading home a cross from Brazilian Douglas Maicon, who
secured the win with fast dive on 75 minutes.
Inter now have 57 points from 21 games and hold an 11-point
lead over second-place Roma, who earlier Sunday struggled to edge visiting Siena 1-0.
The Rome
side have a chance to reduce the gap next weekend when they visit Inter, the
only unbeaten side in the league, at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Inter are now just one win shy of a record winning streak
set by Spanish giants Real Madrid and tied on 14 victories Barcelona and
English side Arsenal. |
