Australian Open: Roddick filets old friend Fish Tuesday, January 23, 2007 06:30 [IST]
Melbourne: Andy Roddick of the US turned in a near perfect
performance on his way to a sixth consecutive victory over compatriot and childhood
buddy Mardy Fish, with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 quarter-final win at the Australian Open
here today (Jan 23, 2007).
Sixth seed Roddick escaped with just four unforced errors in
a rout lasting less than 90 minutes.
He produced 25 winners but was out aced by Fish 12 to 10.
Roddick has now reached the semi-finals in Melbourne for the third time in four years.
Fish, a teenaged housemate of Roddick in Florida,
was playing his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
"I feel good, Mardy may have been nervous at the
start," said the winner.
"I wasn't expecting to get so many looks at his serve.
I feel fine and I'm ready for the semis," he said.
Roddick will play the winner of the match between Swiss
Roger Federer and Tommy Robredo of Spain.
"I'd love to play Roger, I've lost to him a bunch of times,"
said the American.
"He's a great player, but I feel like I'm improving a
lot right now," he said. |
