Pollock rises three spots in bowler rankings
Thursday, January 18, 2007 01:11 [IST]

Dubai: Shaun Pollock's fine show against India and in the first Test against Pakistan lifted him to fourth position in the LG ICC bowling rankings, his highest placing in two years.

Pollock, who was named man of the series against India, collected another four wickets in the win against Pakistan at Centurion.

The veteran bowler has been helped by the removal from the list of Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, who retired from Test cricket after the Ashes series. Pollock now stands just five rating points behind third-placed Anil Kumble.

Makhaya Ntini, who took 6-161 in the first Test, remains in second position behind runaway leader Muttiah Muralitharan.

Mohammed Asif, who was back in the side after suspension, was the major mover after returning match figures of 7-145 in the Centurion Test. He now sits in 19th spot, a rise of nine places.

Ashwell Prince, who scored his sixth Test hundred at Centurion, climbed three spots to 11th in the batting charts. Skipper Rahul Dravid is the only Indian in the top 10 at number seven.

After a record-breaking year, Mohammad Yousuf, who was absent from the first Test, starts the year on second spot in the Test batting rankings behind Ricky Ponting. England's Kevin Pietersen is placed third.

In the all-rounders list, Jacques Kallis is in top spot with his teammate Pollock in third place behind Andrew Flintoff. Shane Warne's retirement means that Irfan Pathan returns to the top five, just behind Daniel Vettori.
