Humiliated Newcastle crash out of FA Cup Thursday, January 18, 2007 12:57 [IST]
London: Newcastle
became the biggest casualty of the third round of the FA Cup, suffering a
humiliating 1-5 loss at home in a replay against Championship side Birmingham.
Gary McSheffrey put the away side ahead after five minutes,
and an own-goal from Nolberto Solano doubled their lead on the stroke of
half-time Wednesday.
James Milner pulled one back in the 11th minute into the
second half, but Steven Taylor was sent off a minute later. After that, Newcastle capitulated.
Bruno N'Gotty restored the two-goal margin after 59 minutes,
and further goals from Sebastian Larsson and Campbell completed the rout.
Italian forward Vincenzo Montella struck twice as Fulham
came from 1-3 down to beat Leicester 4-3 with a last-minute Wayne Routledge
goal, while Tottenham easily disposed of Cardiff 4-0 in the night's other
replay.
Goals from Aaron Lennon, Robbie Keane and Steed Malbranque
had them up 3-0 by half-time, and Jermain Defoe added a late fourth.
