Pakistan to lodge complaint against Nel
Monday, January 15, 2007 03:15 [IST]

Andre NelKarachi: The Pakistan cricket team is unhappy with the antics of South African pacer Andre Nel and is planning to lodge a formal complaint with the match referee after the first Test at the Centurion.

Skipper Inzamam-ul Haq said after the third day's play that the match referee should take note of Nel's provocative actions.

"The team management will formally table the matter before the match referee," he told Geo Television.

Nel has in the past got under the skin of others teams, most recently against India, but surprisingly match referees have been reluctant to penalise him or even ask him to tone down his histrionics which at times border on the offensive.

Commentators too tend to ignore his conduct by stating it is part of the game but a former Pakistan player, Basit Ali said if any Asian player would have indulged in such antics, he would be targeted immediately by officials.

"Why is he being allowed to get away with such offensive and provocative behaviour. He did it consistently against the Indians also and it led to that famous incident with Sreesanth waving his bat like a cowboy," Basit said.
