Martins inspires Newcastle fight-back in Premiership
Monday, January 15, 2007 03:09 [IST]

London: Newcastle came twice from behind to beat Tottenham 3-2 in a remarkable game at White Hart Lane in the English Premier League.

Jermaine Defoe's 14th-minute opener for Tottenham was equalised two minutes later by a Paul Huntington shot that cannoned in off the leg of goalkeeper Paul Robinson in a match played Sunday.

Dimitar Berbatov restored Spurs's lead, but Obafemi Martins levelled with a 20-yard drive on 71 minutes, and Nicky Butt stole a winner from the Nigerian's reverse-ball two minutes later.

Earlier, Everton had come from behind to draw at home against Reading in front of a Goodison Park crowd that included actor Sylvester Stallone.

The away side had taken a first-half lead as Stephen Hunt's header was blocked by goalkeeper Tim Howard, only to cannon in off defender Joleon Lescott.

Andy Johnson levelled with nine minutes remaining with his eighth league goal of the season.
