No MRI scan planned for Munaf Patel: Joshi Tuesday, January 09, 2007 04:19 [IST]
Mumbai: Cricket Board's official physician Anant Joshi said
today (Jan 9, 2007)that contrary to media reports no MRI scan of speedster
Munaf Patel's ankle was scheduled and the bowler had been asked to take rest to
overcome the injury.
"Munaf Patel is basically apprehensive of the injury flaring up and
fearful of possible long-term effects. When examining him, no pathology was
visible. We have not found anything which is harmful. He's received top class
treatment in South Africa,"
Joshi told sources.
"He's been advised two weeks' rest from the game to get over his fear (of
the injury flaring up)," Joshi explained.
The pace bowler missed the first two Tests and was below par in the final match
on the recent South Africa
tour after injuring his ankle earlier in the five-match ODI series.
Patel was examined by Joshi yesterday at his clinic here in the presence of
team physio John Gloster and was advised rest for two weeks which effectively
has ruled him out of the Indian team for the first two ODI's against the West
Indies slated for January 21 (Nagpur) and 24 (Cuttack).
The selectors are to meet in Rajkot on Januay 12
to choose the team for these two ODI's apart from the 30 probables for the
March-April World Cup in the West Indies.
