aces to help overcome an early 5 0 deficit and beat second seeded Richard
Gasquet of France
1 6, 6 3, 7 6 (4) in the Adelaide International quarterfinals Friday.
Losing the first five games of the first set within 12
minutes, Guccione blasted serve after serve down the middle line to frustrate
Gasquet and get back into the match..
Guccione added three
aces in the third set tiebreaker, the last on match point.
Top seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who came from a break
down in each set, beat American Paul Goldstein 6 4, 7 5.
Djokovic will play
the winner of Friday night's quarterfinal between Joachim Johannson of Sweden
and American Vincent Spadea.
Russian baseliner Igor Kunitsyn, who beat hometown favorite
Lleyton Hewitt on Thursday, played Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina in
another quarterfinal later. |
