Hamburg, Thomas Hitzlsperger struck twice as VfB Stuttgart stormed into the quarter-finals of the German Cup with a 4-1 victory against VfL Bochum.
Mario Gomez opened the scoring in the 34th with a low shot before the German midfielder Hitzelsperger doubled the lead in the 49th and struck from short range on the hour for 3-0 Tuesday.
Tommy Bechmann got a consolation goal for Bochum before Cacao wrapped up matters in the dying seconds of the day.
Elsewhere, Hertha Berlin won 3-0 against VfL Osnabruck, who were the last third division club left in the competition. Malik Fahti's intended cross ended in the net for Hertha's first in the 33rd, with Christian Gimenez getting the other goals in the 41st and 52nd.
Eintracht Frankfurt fought to a 3-1 victory against second-division Cologne from extra-time headers from Naohiro Takahara in the 93rd and Sotirios Kyrgiakos in the 113th.
Nuremberg beat second-division Unterhaching 2-1 on penalties after a 0-0 deadlock.
Meanwhile, Paraguay midfielder Julio dos Santos broke his shin bone in a final training session at Bayern Munich before a loan move to Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg.
Munich doctors said Tuesday that he would be sidelined for around 10 weeks until late February. He will miss around four weeks of action as the Bundesliga ends its winter break at the end of January.
Dos Santos, 23, came to Munich last January but has rarely played for the Bundesliga champions. He was loaned off to Wolfsburg Monday until the end of the season in order to get more playing time.
