Ex-cricketers see no problem with Sreesanth's dance
Wednesday, December 20, 2006 03:48 [IST]

New Delhi, Paceman S Sreesanth's war dance in the middle of the Wanderers track was a reflection of the passion and energy of the young blood in the Indian team, legendary all rounder Kapil Dev said here today.
Also giving the seal of approval to Sreesanth's antics was former opener turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu who blamed match officials of following a "certain double standard".

"It was a great sight. Sreesanth was fighting fire with fire, and this is the reason why you admire people like Sourav Ganguly. He matched Steve Waugh's verbal ding-dong and the result was before us to see," said Sidhu who showed no signs of being ruffled by a recent court verdict that held him guilty of manslaughter.

Sreesanth, who did a jig with the bat after hitting Andre Nel for a six, was fined 30 per cent of his match fees for his "unsportsmanlike conduct" after he ran towards Hashim Amla on dismissing the batsman in South Africa's second innings.

Kapil said as long as such display of emotions was positive, he did not see anything wrong with it.

"The youths are so much full of energy. I may not like Sourav Ganguly for taking off his shirt and swirling it or the way Sreesanth came out to whirl his bat. But at the end of the day, it probably gives them the passion and if that is a pre-requisite for Team India's win, I have no problem with that." More PTI ABH MRM MRM 12191852 DEL
