ECB to assess Fletcher's position after World Cup
Tuesday, December 19, 2006 04:03 [IST]

Melbourne, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will review the position of coach Duncan Fletcher, who has come under a lot of flak after losing the coveted Ashes urn, after next year's World Cup.

"I think that (reviewing Fletcher's position) can be true," ECB chief executive David Collier was quoted in the media here.

"But we are in the middle of a series still. We have got two important Test matches in Sydney and Melbourne, we have then got the one-day series, we then go into the World Cup," Collier said.

"After the World Cup is the time we will truly reflect on where we go for the next four years. We tend to work in four-year cycles." Fletcher has been widely criticised for England's lacklustre performances and for selecting left-arm spinner Ashley Giles ahead of Monty Panesar for the first two Tests.

Meanwhile, Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said he has buried the hatchet with Fletcher.

"I have got no hard feelings between Duncan and me," Ponting was quoted in media reports here.

"I went down into their rooms and shook all their players' hands and then I went back to ours and had a beer.
