Ashutosh Singh knocks out Ravi Shankar

New Delhi, Ashutosh Singh made the most of his luck by scoring a come from behind win in the first round of the USD 15,000 State Bank of Saurashtra ITF Futures men's tennis event here today.

Ashutosh, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser following the pull out of Tunisian qualifier Qulid Jallali, defeated Pathanjali Ravi Shankar 2-6 6-4 6-4 to advance to the second round.

Fifth seed Karan Rastogi had little problems in packing off wild card Vishnu Vardhan 6-4 6-2 while Divij Sharan had to overcome some stiff resistance from Navdeep Singh before winning 4-6 6-3 6-4.

Vijay Kanna went down to Bulgarian Todor Enev 6-4 6-4.

Another wild card Purav Raja also bit the dust with a 6-2 6-2 loss to Hiroki Kondo of Japan, another lucky loser.

In other matches, Chinese Taipei's Hsin-Har Lee shocked sixth seed Petar Jelenic of Croatia 4-6 6-3 6-4 and Xavier Pujc of France knocked out Ukrainian Vladislav Bondarenko 6-3 6-4.

Rohan Bopanna is the top seed in the tournament and will kick off his campaign against doubles partner Mustafa Ghouse in the first round tomorrow.
