Ganguly still has sights on World Cup Monday, December 18, 2006 04:44 [IST]

Johannesburg
: Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly
said he believed he was good enough to play in next year's World Cup.
Ganguly, who made 51 not out and 25 on his return to the Test
side to help them close in on victory in the first Test against South Africa at
the Wanderers Stadium, said he had never doubted his ability.
"I felt I was good enough to contribute in
international cricket. I hope it will continue. I still want to play both forms
of the game," he said.
He said he hoped his experience and his record in one-day
internationals would get him back into the one-day side in time for the World
Cup in the West Indies next March
Ganguly, 34, said his time out of the team had reminded him
that cricket was not the most important thing in life but said he continued to
work on his game.
"I played domestic cricket, worked on my technique,
enjoyed time with the Bengal (domestic team)
boys and spent time at home," he said.
He said experience was a crucial factor in his successful
return.
"It helps knowing what the conditions will be. It is my
third visit to South Africa.
When you have played in countries like South
Africa, Australia
and England
you have to think about the adjustments you need to make," he said.
Ganguly said on Sunday he was grateful for the support he
had received from many fans after he was dropped.
"It's been nice but it would have been the same if
(current captain) Rahul Dravid or Anil Kumble was dropped," he said.
He took a philosophical view of selection decisions.
"It's part of professional sport. Rahul has been
dropped from the one-day side, Anil has been dropped. The only guy in this team
who has not been dropped is Sachin (Tendulkar). You get picked, you get dropped
and you come back again," he said. |
