India elect to bat in first Test against SA

Johannesburg: Indian captain Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to bat in the first cricket Test against South Africa at the Wanderers here today.

India, expectedly, included six batsmen and four bowlers in their playing eleven. VRV Singh was picked ahead of Irfan Pathan while Harabhajan Singh was left out.

South Africa included no less than five fast bowlers in their eleven.

The match was delayed by an hour and half after the pitch was found to be too moist this morning.

India: Virender Sehwag, Wasim Jaffer, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth, Anil Kumble and VRV Singh.

South Africa: Herschelle Gibbs, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, Ashwell Prince, AB de Villiers, Mark Boucher, Shaun Pollock, Andre Nel, Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini.

Umpires: Mark Benson (Eng) and Darryl Harper (Aus) Third umpire: Carl Hunter (RSA) Match Referee: Roshan Mahanama.
