'Winning gold for country is a experience'
Friday, December 15, 2006 06:20 [IST]

Hyderabad
: Expressing delight at winning double gold medals at the Doha Asian Games, Grandmaster Koneru Humpy today described her feat as 'a unique experience.'

Humpy won the gold in the individual event and also for the team which also included P Harikrishna and Sasikiran, as the Indians carved top honours on the board of 64 squares.

"It is a different honour to win a medal for the country and the national pride that I experienced when our anthem was played during medal presentation ceremony was unique," Humpy said on her return from Doha this morning.

"I was confident but expected China to be very tough. Once I crossed that hurdle, it was almost a cakewalk. Though gold was assured after the penultimate round, my draw in the last game was a bit disappointing," she said.
