Sourav Ghosal beat Ritwik to reach semifinal Wednesday, December 13, 2006 05:52 [IST]
 Doha: India's Sourav
Ghosal romped into the semi final of the Asian Games squash singles event with
a 3-1 victory over compatriot and third seed Ritwik Bhattacharya here today.
Ghosal sprung a surprise of sorts by beating his superior opponent 9-4 9-0 6-9
9-7 at the Khalifa international stadium.
The Indian challange in the women's singles section, however, ended when top
player Joshna Chinappa lost 0-3 to Hong Kong's
Chiu Wing Yin in the quarter finals.
Chinappa, who was expected to make it to the semis, was trifle off-colour as
she surrendered 3-9, 1-9 2-9 in a match which lasted barely 17 minutes.
The Ritwik-Ghosal match was rather unfortunate as it forced one Indian to be
eliminated before the semi-final stage.
Ghosal will now meet the winner of the match between second seeded Ong and Kuwait's Al
Ramezi in the semi-final tomorrow.
Ritwik suffered an injury on his nose during the match but later said it did
not affect his game.
"My injury did not affect my performance, but it took me some time to get
into the match. Sourav played very well and I am happy for him", Ritwik
said. |
