Afridi recalled as replacement for Yousuf
Tuesday, December 12, 2006 01:24 [IST]

Karachi: Pakistan selectors today (Dec12, 2006) recalled flamboyant batsman Shahid Afridi for the one-day series against the West Indies after senior batsman Mohammad Yousuf pulled out of Wednesday's fourth match at Multan due to his wife's illness.

The selectors had arleady included young batsman Faisal Iqbal in the squad as a back-up for captain Inzamam-ul-Haq who is yet to recover from a finger injury.

Another senior player Younis Khan has also returned home to attend to the burial of his elder brother Farman, who died in Germany last week.

Yousuf missed the second game in Faisalabad while Younis opted out of the third game in Lahore. Both games were won by Pakistan.

Chief selector, Wasim Bari said Yousuf had informed them late evening that his wife was not keeping well so he would like to be with her and could not travel to Multan for the fourth game.

"We can understand the position he is in and that is why we have called up Afridi who is in good form in domestic cricket," Bari said.

"Younis is also unlikely to play the fourth game while Inzamam has been advised three days rest," he said.

Inzamam injured his finger trying to stop a Marlon Samuels shot on Sunday.

Afridi was earlier dropped for the one day series due to poor form but came back strongly in domestic cricket.

Pakistan could miss all three senior members in the fourth game on Wednesday.
