Qatar make dream start, S Korea beat B'desh
Wednesday, November 29, 2006 05:56 [IST]

Doha: Qatar slammed Jordan 3-0 in their first group match of the Doha Asian Games football competition to make a fantastic start at the Al Sadd Football Stadium here.

Striker Quintana Sebstian put the hosts ahead six minutes into the game Tuesday with a comfortable shot inside the box after incepting Abdulrahman Hussain Yaser's low cross from the right.

Midfielder Moha Adel Lamy doubled the lead for Qatar off a goal-mouth melee in the 69th minute and two minutes later Yaser sealed the victory, and completed his brace.

Qatar were always on the attacking mood and dominating the midfield with swift short passes. Jordan relied more on the counter-attacks, but posed big threats to the hosts on two occasions in the first half.

Jordan rallied after the interval, pushing forward and launching fierce attacks. Qatar were obviously not well prepared for their opponent's burst and the defence was in disorder for a period. However, it was Qatar who created real chances and finished off the night with three points.

South Korea had an easy 3-0 win over Bangladesh in a lop-sided game. Although the South Koreans merely took a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to Chun Soo Lee's third-minute strike, Bangladesh's failure to produce a single shot before the interval foretold their defeat.

Half-time substitute Park Chu Young contributed a brace in the second half. The promising 21-year-old striker cleverly opened the defence inside the area and blasted home before a fine volley in the 63rd minute.

In other matches played, Uzbekistan downed United Arab Emirates 2-1, Thailand edged past Palestine 1-0, Bahrain beat Vietnam 2-1 and Kuwait thrashed Kyrgyzstan 3-0.
