Wednesday, November 29, 2006 06:13 [IST]

Washington: Former German World Cup coach Juergen Klinsmann is on the shortlist of possible candidates to take over the US national team.

"The negotiations are ongoing. There are four, five candidates left in the race," US soccer spokesman Jim Moorhouse said in a telephone interview. A decision is expected before the end of the year.

Klinsmann, 42, retired as German head coach after leading his nation to a third-place finish at this summer's World Cup in Germany. He lives in California.
