Jaipur:
With six matches of the ICC Champions Trophy being played here and the cricketing world following every stroke, authorities are eager to impress and are hurriedly taking up the task of prettifying the Rajasthan capital.
The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) have planned a special beautification drive on roads leading to the Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Stadium where the matches will be played beginning Oct 11.
Roads are being cleaned and dividers being repainted; special backlit lamps will be installed and footpaths decorated with special interlocking cemented tiles.
Besides, dividers and footpaths will have green plants, high mast lights will be placed at over a dozen important junctions and zebra crossings painted.
"The Champions Trophy is a big event for the city. The first match would be played here on Oct 11 and we have decided to complete all our arrangements at least two days before this match," JDA Commissioner D.B. Gupta told IANS.
The government has formed three mobile units to monitor the work and demolish all encroachments in these places.
District collector Rajeshwar Singh has instructed all his officials to ensure proper law and order during the matches.
The master plan includes easing the traffic pressures and ensuring smooth vehicle flow on match days.
Amongst the six matches - of the 21 matches played by 10 teams in what is a veritable mini World Cup - is a clash between Ashes rivals Australia and England.
The first match on Oct 11 will be played between the West Indies and Bangladesh while the last one on Nov 2 will be the second semi-final.
