India fifth in ICC ODI international rankings Friday, October 6 2006 17:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Dubai:
India, which recently slipped two places to fifth, could move up the International Cricket Council (ICC) one-day international rankings with a good performance in the Champions Trophy starting in India Saturday.
Although India is at par with Pakistan (placed third) and New Zealand (fourth) with 111 rating points, it is placed below them when the ratings are calculated to three decimal places.
Rahul Dravid's side dropped two places to fifth position in the table after failing to reach the final of the recent tri-series with Australia and the West Indies in Malaysia.
Leaders Australia (131), which had a lead of just four rating points over second-placed South Africa (124) at one stage during the tri-series, has put some extra breathing space between itself and its nearest rival with the margin extended to seven points, ICC said here Friday.
Champions Trophy holders West Indies (102) now stands seventh in the table, three points clear of England (99) and five rating points behind Sri Lanka (107).
The 10-nation Champions Trophy starts in Mohali with a Sri Lanka-Bangladesh match.
