Madison (Mississippi):
D.J. Trahan birdied the par-five 18th three straight times in a playoff to outlast Joe Durant and claim his first PGA Tour title Sunday at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic.
Trahan, in his second year on the US tour, had missed 17 of 29 cuts this season and was just 142nd on the money list with 474,242 dollars.
His prize for winning the three million-dollar tournament was 540,000 dollars and a two-year exemption.
Trahan carded his second consecutive one-under-par 71 on Sunday, with two bogeys, an eagle and one birdie.
He birdied the 14th to get to 13-under, but parred his final four holes to finish at 275.
Durant signed for a six-under 66 and was int he clubhouse at 13-under as Trahan played his last four holes.
In the playoff, both Trahan and Durant birdied 18 the first two times.
On the third extra hole, Trahan was just inside Durant and made a birdie putt from five feet.
Durant could not answer, and Trahan pocketed his breakthrough win.
A win would have been the fourth of Durant's career and first since he won twice in 2001.
He carded eight birdies Sunday, including two on his final three holes to storm into the playoff.
Former US Open champion Lee Janzen finished third at 12-under 276, closing with a two-under 70.
