Sania Mirza moves to 55th spot in singles

New Delhi: India's Sania Mirza moved up four places to be at 55th spot in the latest women's tennis singles rankings released today (Oct 2, 2006).

Sania's performance at the Korea Open, where she defeated world No. 8 Martina Hingis of Switzerland 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 in the second round helped her improve her rankings. In the quarters, Sania lost to Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain 6-7, 6-4, 6-7.

In the doubles rankings, Sania has maintained her 26th place, which she achieved with her South African partner Liezel Huber at the Sunfeast Open in Kolkata.
