Eleven probables are today (30 Sep, 2006) announced for Indian polo team for the World Cup play offs to be held in Clevedon, New Zealand in February-March next year.
The players will play as a team in the forthcoming polo season in Delhi, Calcutta, Jaipur and Jodhpur, and based on the performance of the players, the selection committee will select the final six-member team to represent the country, a press release says here.
The Indian team will play in the zonal elimination rounds in Zone D, comprising Oceania, Africa and Asia, to qualify for the 8th World Cup to be held in Mexico in September 2007.
The world cup polo championship, a 14-goal tournament, is a once in a three years affair conducted by the Federation of International Polo (FIP).
Zone A consists of South America, Zone B has North America and Zone C includes Europe.
