Ganjee finishes tied third in Korea Open golf Monday, September 25 2006 11:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Seoul:
India's Rahil Ganjee finishes tied third after giving a great chase to the leaders on the final day of the USD 700,000 Kolon-Hana Bank Korea Open golf tournament here Sunday (24 Sep, 2006).
Ganjee scores five birdies in the first 15 holes but then as he looks like making it closer, he drops two shots on last two holes for a bogey-bogey finish that sees him drop to tied third after seeming to be in a position to challenge the eventual winner Korea's Yang Yong-Eun.
Gangjee's two bogeys and some steady play by Yang makes him a comfortable winner by three shots. He shoots a final round of three-under 68 and totaled nine-under 275, the same as David Oh (67) and Kang Kyung-Nam (72).
The Indian ends in a three-tie for third for USD 33,162, his best payday since his win in Beijing two years ago. He also moves to 29th on UBS Asian Tour Order of Merit. He is the sixth Indian in top-30 of Asian Tour rankings.
Yang shoots a 70 and ends at 14-under 270 and three clear of Kang Ji-Man (70) who is 11-under 273.
Gangjee, who won the 2004 Volkswagen Masters, China, has turned on the heat in the final round with five birdies in 15 holes. On the 17th, he drops a shot after failing to hole par putt and then goes into the water on the par-5 18th for another bogey.
In both cases, Gangjee seems to be playing aggressive in an attempt to give him a chance of having a shy at the leader, Yang.
