Kuala Lumpur: Australian captain Ricky Ponting says the self-belief of his players has bailed the team out of difficult situations and helps them clinch the cricket triseries.

Ponting says his team had some good players who had enough confidence in themselves to overcome adverse situations and emerge winners.

"It's the self belief. There are a lot of good players in the team and they believe in their abilities," he says after Australia inflicts a 127-run defeat on West Indies in the final to win the tournament.

Ponting says the various experiments with the line-up had helped the team test its ability.

"The wicket here was not very easy. We did some experimentation and that has come out good," he says.

Heaping praise on Brett Lee, who captured 12 wickets in three matches, the Australian skipper says the speedster is a great asset to the side.

"He is the best one-day international bowler who can bat lower down the order. He is a great asset for the team," Ponting says.

Despite the heavy defeat, West Indies captain Brian Lara praises his teammates for their showing in the tournament.

"We were happy to restrict a team like Australia to 240. The boys have done pretty well," he says.
