Chappell to take break after Malaysia series
Tuesday, September 19 2006 11:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Coach Greg Chappell is to take a break after the ongoing DLF Cup triseries in Malaysia and would rejoin the Indian squad on October 6 ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

"Chappell is set to go to Australia from Malaysia and will rejoin the team on October 6," says Indian cricket board's secretary Niranjan Shah here Monday (18 Sep, 2006).

"It's a small matter which would be decided in a couple of days," Shah says when queried on who would coach the senior's squad in the NKP Salve Challenger Series in Chennai from October 1 to 4.

"The India seniors, India A and B teams would be picked in Mumbai on September (rpt September) 26," he informs.

The high-profile tournament will be another tune-up for the Indian squad, and a platform for discards and hopefuls alike to catch the selectors' eyes.

The Champions Trophy, for which a 14-member squad has already been selected, is to be played from Oct 7 to Nov 5.

India is to start their campaign in the ten-team Mini World Cup with a tie against England at Jaipur on October 15.

Meanwhile, Barbados-born sports psychologist Rudi Webster will start the first stint of his 36-day schedule with the Indian squad ahead of the high-profile tournament.

"Webster's services have been requested for by the team management and the board has accepted it. He would interact with the team before the Champions Trophy and in the West Indies before the World Cup," the BCCI official says.

The Indian squad is to reach the Caribbean for cricket's quadrennial showpiece on March 1, Shah says.

Webster will also interact with the team members before other tours and tournaments in between, according to Shah.
