Team needs to improve its fielding: Dravid
Friday, September 8 2006 12:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid Thursday (7 Sep, 2006) says the players are unanimous in their opinion that individual members as well as the team as a whole need to improve in the fielding department.

"In all the interviews we had with all the boys, there was pretty much unanimity, Everyone in the team felt that the area where we wanted to improve individually and the team could really make some strides, was in the fielding department," Dravid says at the end of the nine-day rolling camp ahead of the tri-series beginning in Malaysia on September 12.

Dravid says while the players feel the team fielded well in the series in Sri Lanka and England, they are not happy with the performance in the West Indies.

"It was unanimously felt that they wanted to personally improve fielding and they felt that the team needed to be a good fielding side," he says.

Dravid says the focus of the just-concluded camp was to help do the basics well by 'innovative methods' such as practising batting with a stump and golf ball, fielding drills and use of bowling machines.

The focus is on individual players, and how they can improve in areas they are lacking and how the team's performance could be enhanced.

Dravid also says the team expected its lower order batsmen to make 'critical contribution' but adds it is not going to be easy as in most situations they are under pressure to make quick runs and win the match.
