Sania and Liezel, who won the Bangalore Open title this February, next play Stephanie Cohen-Aloro of France and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain, who defeat Austrian Sybille Bammer and Julia Schruff of Germany 7-5, 6-2 in their opening match.

Sania had earlier lost in the singles second round, 7-5 1-6 2-6 to Fransesca Schiavone of Italy.

Meanwhile, multiple Grand Slam champions Mahesh Bhupathi and Argentina's Paola Suarez pull out of the mixed doubles event.
