Ganguly says he is still good enough to play Saturday, September 2 2006 10:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Hurt by the treatment meted out to him in the last few months, Sourav Ganguly Friday (1 Sep, 2006) says he is still good enough to play for India and the selectors cannot ignore him if he scores well in the domestic matches.
The former captain says he is hoping to score a lot of runs in domestic cricket to prove to the world that some good years of cricket are still left in him.
Refusing to put the blame on any one particular person for his unceremonious ouster, Ganguly says it hurts him a lot to be left out of a team he had led for so many years but he is still not disheartened.
"Obviously it hurts and it will hurt not just me but anyone. But I do not let that dampen my spirits and I keep my hopes alive. I think I am in serious contention for the World Cup and that it would be difficult for the selectors to ignore me if I continue to score big runs in domestic cricket," he says.
"I want to score runs, runs and more runs so that the world realises that there's lots of cricket left in me," the Bengal left-hander says.
"... Selectors look at a host of issues and then select a side, perhaps I am not fitting into their scheme of things at this point of time but that does not mean the life is over. And if I perform well - which I am hoping to do - in the domestic series, then I am sure the selectors will take a serious look at me."
