Anil Kumble suffering from shoulder injury
Thursday, August 24 2006 11:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

London: Ace Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble is cutting short his stint for Surrey County Cricket Club and is returning home on Friday (25 Aug, 2006) after being diagnosed with tendonitis in his right shoulder.

Announcing this Tuesday (22 Aug, 2006), the Surrey County Cricket Club says, "The Indian star has been diagnosed with tendonitis in his right shoulder, which can only recover with rest. It is for this reason that he will be returning home this Friday and as such will be taking no further part in the remainder of Surrey's season."

Kumble, who reported to the Brit Oval on July 18, played in three Liverpool Victoria County Championship matches, three NatWest Pro40 matches and two Twenty20 matches for Surrey.

Altogether, Kumble took 26 wickets, which includes the match-winning figures of 11 for 183 against Northamptonshire at the Brit Oval.

Commenting on the early loss of their overseas player, Surrey Cricket Manager Alan Butcher says, "It is very disappointing to lose Anil for the rest of the season. However, he has shown that he is a world-class performer as well as a first class professional. It was a pleasure working with him and I would love the opportunity to do so again."

Kumble says, "It is disappointing that my shoulder injury has prevented me from taking part in the rest of Surrey's season. We are still in with a great chance of winning the Second Division Liverpool Victoria County Championship and I would have loved to be part of that."

Kumble has been selected in India's provisional 30-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy to be hosted by India in October-November.
