ICC postpones Inzamam's hearing Thursday, August 24 2006 12:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Dubai:
The International Cricket Council Wednesday (23 Aug, 2006) postpones Friday's (25 Aug, 2006) Code of Conduct hearing involving Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq due to unavailability of the adjudicator Ranjan Madugalle.
Although the ICC does not specify a fresh date for the hearing, it says the disciplinary proceedings will be rescheduled after the one-day series between England and Pakistan.
"The difficulty (to conduct the hearing) relates to the availability of Ranjan Madugalle to chair the hearing as he is dealing with a private and personal matter that requires his urgent attention," ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed says in a statement.
"Pakistan and England, as the host country, have both expressed a preference for Ranjan to hear the case and on that basis we have agreed to the postponement," he says.
"We have looked at potential alternatives but, as the ICC's Chief Referee and a person with immense credibility within the game, Ranjan is the most appropriate person to adjudicate in this matter," Speed adds.
Inzamam has been charged with ball tampering and bringing the game into disrepute following Pakistan's sensational forfeiture of the fourth and final Test to England at the Oval on Sunday.
