Colombo:
Reaping a rich medal harvest, India continues their golden march on the second day of competition at the 10th South Asian Games here today (20 Aug, 2006).
The contingent dominates the pool, picking up six gold medals, while two more come from the shooting range and another from the table tennis hall, as the gulf between India and its regional opponents widen.
As the day wear on, the Indian tally stands at 24 gold, 10 silver and three bronze, confirming its status as the undisputed sporting powerhouse in the region.
The swimmers are busy medal shopping for the second consecutive day, in the process breaking a Games record, but are denied a clean sweep by the host nation's Andrew Abeysinghe who surprises the fancied Rehan Poncha in the men's 200m backstroke.
The small reversal apart, India claimed all other gold medals on offer at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool where Fariah Zaman sets a new Games mark on way to clinching the gold in women's 100m backstroke clocking 1:09.05 seconds.
The country gets a bonus with Shipra Mahajan grabbing the bronze in the event.
