Dirk Kuyt in Liverpool against Sheffield United Saturday, August 19 2006 11:07 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Liverpool:
Liverpool's search for a top class striker ends Friday (18 Aug, 2006) when the Anfield club signed Dirk Kuyt from Feyenoord.
The 26-year-old sails through a medical to complete the 'dream' transfer and he can now figure in Liverpool's Premiership curtain raiser against Sheffield United on Saturday (19 Aug, 2006).
Kuyt will find himself competing for places alongside the likes of Peter Crouch, Craig Bellamy and Robbie Fowler after manager Rafael Benitez let go experienced duo Fernando Morientes and Djibril Cisse.
Benitez tells the club's official website, "He'll score a lot of goals for us."
The fee for Kuyt remains undisclosed.
Kuyt began his career with Utrecht, but attracted Feyenoord's interested after netting 20 goals in the 2002-03 season.
Since joining the Rotterdam club in summer 2003, he has netted 71 goals in 101 league matches.
Liverpool faces competition from Newcastle for Kuyt, with Feyenoord confirming the Magpies have been keen on taking him to St James' Park.
But Kuyt declares Liverpool to be his 'dream club' and his arrival has delighted Benitez.
"I am really happy. We were looking at Dirk for a long time and I'm pleased we have signed him because he will be a good player for us."
"He's a player with good game intelligence. He knows what to do with the ball and without the ball and he is also a very good worker."
"His movement is good, his finishing is fantastic and I know he will score a lot of goals for us because we now have more possibilities in the wide areas and also between the lines."
