Sania Mirza maintains her 44th rank for the second consecutive week on the WTA charts announced today (14 Aug, 2006).
The 19-year-old Hyderabadi, who lost in the first round of the JP Morgan Chase tournament in Toronto last week, has 467 points.
However, her rise on the doubles charts is on with gains for the third week in continuation as the Indian tennis icon climbs to 29th spot from 32nd. She has 971 points in her kitty.
US-based Shikha Uberoi is the next highest ranked Indian at 188th in the singles after sliding down one place and being steady at 126th in doubles.
Delhi girl Ankita Bhambri is at distant 359th after she lost of three places in the singles while Rushmi Chakravarthy is the third highest ranked doubles player in the country.
Among the Indian men, Leander Paes improves two places to 12th and Mahesh Bhupathi goes down two spots to be 26th in the ATP doubles rankings.
Rohan Bopanna gains two places to be 151st while Prakash Amritraj loses two places to be 185th.
Bopanna (294th), Harsh Mankad (305th), Karan Rastogi (343rd) and Prakash Amritraj (354th) are the leading Indians on the singles charts.
