Sania loses in singles, advances in doubles

New Delhi: Sania Mirza lost to Russian fourth seed Elena Dementieva to bow out of the women's singles in the 1.3-million-dollar Acura Classic WTA Tour tennis event in San Diego, California.

The 44th ranked Indian teenager went down 6-2 3-6 6-3 to her Russian nemesis in the pre-quarterfinals of the hardcourt championship.

However, Sania tasted success in the doubles. Partnering Liezel Huber of South Africa, she defeated Anna Chakvetadze of Russia and Jill Craybus of the USA 7-5 6-2 to move to the quarterfinals.
