South American legends to clash in London Wednesday, August 2 2006 18:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Rio de Janeiro:
South American football giants Brazil and Argentina are giving it another go in Europe after both had a disappointing World Cup effort.
The two national teams plan to meet in battle Sep 1 in London, Brazil's national football association CBF announced Tuesday.
The game is planned in Arsenal's new home, Emirates Stadium, which is due to open this month for the start of the 2006-2007 season.
For the South Americans, the match is a chance to rebuild after going into the World Cup as favourites but being tossed out in the quarterfinals Brazil by the eventual winners France, and Argentina by Germany.
The game also represents a test for the team's new coaches. Alfio Basile is to celebrate his debut in his second tenure as coach of the Gauchos, and Carlos Dunga is to head up the Selecao in his second game as coach after an Aug 16 game against Norway in Oslo.
