Monday, July 31 2006 15:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Umag (Croatia): Unseeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka won the US$400,000 ATP Umag Open Sunday after fourth seed Serbian Novak Djokovic abandoned during the first set tie-break due to respiratory problems. Wawrinka, ranked 66, won his first ATP event after reaching his first final this year.

The first set with was littered with service breaks but the crucial moment came at 5-4 to Wawrinka when Djokovic, who in the previous days complained of shoulder and elbow pain, asked for a three minute break due to respiratory problems and exhaustion. Djokovic, who defeated Spain's fifth seed Carlos Moya in the semi-finals, managed to return to the game and was leading 3-1 in the tie-break when he had to surrender the match.

"It was very unexpected how I won this match since. At this moment Djokovic was a better player than me," Wawrinka said.
