Cromwell:
American JJ Henry fired a three-under-par 67 on Sunday to easily win the 4.4 million-dollar PGA Buick Championship and register his first career victory.
"It's just a dream come true," Henry said.
"To come back to my home state and win on this course, it just means the world to me," he said.
At 14-under 266, Henry finished three shots clear of Hunter Mahan and Ryan Moore and became the sixth first-time winner on tour this season.
Henry carded five birdies and a pair of bogeys and was in control throughout the final round.
"I've been out here now six years and to get that first win is unbelievable," Henry said. "I couldn't think of any other place where I would want to do it than here in Hartford. It really is unbelievable," he said.
Playing on the course where he made his tour debut as an amateur in 1998, Henry entered Sunday with a two-stroke cushion and extended the lead to as many as five shots with four birdies in his first 11 holes.
Henry added his final birdie at the 14th and had bogeys at Nos. 12 and 17 but the result was never in doubt.
Along with winning 792,000 dollars, Henry also earned a spot in the British Open with the victory and jumped from 26th to sixth in the Ryder Cup standings.
Mahan signed for a 65 and Moore carded a 67 to each finish at 11-under 269. Australian Nathan Green fired a 66 to finish fourth at nine-under 271.
The tie for second matched a career-best finish for Mahan and Moore while Green posted his third top five this season.
"I didn't really put any pressure on (Henry) early," Moore said.
"I had some good looks at birdie on the first five or six holes and couldn't get them to go in," he said.
