Hingis keen to continue career comeback Wednesday, June 7 2006 14:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Paris:
Nearly six months into her comeback to tennis Martina Hingis has declared her return to the game she once dominated as a major success.
Despite losing a 7-6 (7/5), 6-1 quarter-final to second seed Kim Clijsters on Tuesday, the Swiss five-time Grand Slam champion is confident that she made the correct move in reversing a three-year 'retirement.'
"It definitely was worthwhile coming back and playing," said the two-time Roland Garros finalist.
"I'm having some great emotions and moments back on court," she said.
Hingis came to Paris on the back of a clay title in Rome.
"I had some great matches in the last six months. Coming back is probably the most positive thing. You have ups and downs, highs and lows, which is normal," she said.
"You just kind of have to dig deep and keep going," she said.
Hingis will be making the transition over the next week onto grass, where she hopes to shine brighter at Wimbledon from June 26.
"It's been a while since I stood on a grass court. It's the same for everybody, nobody really practices on grass," said the 1997 champion at the All England club.
"I'm looking forward to it, I don't know what to expect. Usually the first day, second day I practice on grass I feel very good. Hopefully it will stay like that," she said.
